About halfway between Galena and Savanna on State Rt. 84 in Jo Daviess County is the village of Hanover. Hanover is divided by the Apple River (pictured below) with most of the town lying south of the river. One structure north of the river is the Hanover Lumber Yard pictured above. It was originally the Limage Brothers Lumber Yard, and brothers started their business in 1905.
Hanover is known as the "Mallard Capitol of the World" since it has the world's largest mallard duck hatchery in town, Whistling Wings. Every year in September Hanover hosts a "Mallardfest" with live music, fireworks, and duck calling contests. To find out more on Hanover, click here.
