Woodland Cemetery

Probably one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the state of Illinois is Woodland Cemetery on the southern end of Quincy.  It is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, and it is one of the only areas of town that was not graded or flattened, giving the visitor an idea of what the landscape was once like before settlers arrived.  Many of Quincy’s most prominent residents were buried in Woodland, and there are many beautiful monuments to be seen.  It was founded in 1846 when John Wood decided that a new cemetery was needed and sold some of his land for this purpose.
