Just to the west of the better known Kaskaskia is Dozaville in Randolph County. Like Kaskaskia, it is actually west of the Mississippi River, but east of where it had once flowed. To drive to Kaskaskia one has to drive from St. Mary, Missouri, through Dozaville. The village was probably named after the Doza family that was living in the area at least as early as 1782 and perhaps much earlier. Today, there is an old caboose rusting on a small piece of railroad track. To see pictures of an abandoned church in Dozaville taken in 1995, click here. To continue on to Kaskaskia, click here.
